Second Doses of Moderna Vaccine Being Stepped Up in Kahnawake

Kahnawake is now under an Orange alert level.
That allows for restaurants, which are inspected, to open their terraces and dinning rooms to 25 percent capacity. Other measures include allowing for outdoor gatherings at private residences to increase to 12 people as long as masks, distance and hygiene are adhered to. Religious services can be held up to a maximum of 25 percent capacity to a maximum of 50 people indoors.
The relaxing of measures are due to improving numbers. There are no active cases of COVID-19 in Kahnawake. “Mostly it’s regarding the situation in Kahnawake and outside Kahnawake,” Lisa Westaway, the Executive Director of the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (KMHC), said while appearing on Kahnawake 911 live on Facebook Thursday afternoon. “As we see the numbers are drastically decreasing in number of new cases per day. In the Monteregie and in Montreal also decreases with just over 500 new cases per day and decreases in hospitalizations, decreases in numbers of deaths.”
The vaccination timeline is being stepped up in Kahnawake as well. “We’ll be vaccinating second doses for Moderna the weeks of the 7th, 14th and 21st of June,” Westaway said. “Appointments are not yet open for that. We know some of you might already have your appointments for second doses, so we’ll be changing those appointments to be able to vaccinate you a little bit earlier. We’ll be giving you all of that information next week on how that’s going to happen.”
By the end of June the entire community will be vaccinated twice if they were in the first wave of the Moderna vaccinations at the Bingo Hall.
The Pfizer vaccine is being offered for those 12-15 years old. Those under 14 will need parental consent.
