ILC Back Under KSCS Management Following Transfer of Power

Written by on 29 April 2021

Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) and the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center (KMHC) have officially completed the return transfer of the clinical and authoritative management of the Independent Living Center (ILC) back to KSCS, following an outbreak of COVID-19 at the ILC.

Derek Montour is the Executive Director at KSCS:

“They had experienced an outbreak at the ILC right before the holidays and at that time, the Kahnawà:ke (Covid-19) Task Force had issued a directive that the management of the ILC would be assumed by Public Health which is normal during these types of outbreaks and circumstances. So they took over, they meaning KMHC, took over the authoritative management as well as the clinical management and mitigation of pandemic infection, prevention and control measures.”

2 staff members tested positive for COVID-19 in December, 2020. At no time did any residents test positive and there have not been any other reported positives at ILC since that time. Montour says KSCS took back control on March 21st:

“We just finished all of the framework that we had with, between us and the KMHC, on how would we move forward when new policies come in place, we wanted to make sure that was completed and accurate for all the parties involved so everybody’s on the same page.”
