More Kahnawakero:non in Isolation as COVID-19 Cases Increase

There are now eight active cases of COVID-19 in Kahnawake. 15 more people who were considered close contacts also went into isolation Tuesday evening as a result. That brings the total to 128 community members who are in 14 day isolation.

Meanwhile second doses of the vaccine will be administered to the in-patients at the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center (KMHC) this week.

“We’re day 112 (since the first dose). So yes, the vaccines will be given to the residents this week and to the natural caregivers who are left t receive their second doses as well,” Lisa Westaway, the Executive Director of the KMHC, said.

However, complicating matters is the fact that Moderna has slowed down delivery of its vaccine to Canada as it retools its plant. That has caused Westaway and her team to adjust somewhat. “The Moderna delivery was supposed to be on Friday to Quebec. It wasn’t delivered.” she said. “However, we do have a second option that we are working out today because we’re lucky that our pharmacy at KMHC did receive a shipment a little while ago that hasn’t been used yet. So we are going to negotiate with them today to do a little trade.”
