Asbestos Inspection Today in Kahnawake: Update
Written by Paul Graif on 27 April 2021
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke says that a walk-through inspection will take place today on properties at the Highway 207/Cemetery Road junction to check for any asbestos-containing material (ACM) that may have surfaced. Elected Official Cody Diabo works on the Asbestos file at the MCK:
“This is across the street across by that business that’s there, it’s called, Crazy Horse, so it’s on that side of the street. There’s been some fill that was brought there that was determined to have some ACM material in there. So this process is just to go over – we wanted to do this before the winter – the goal is now that with every Spring, because of the wet weather, pipes may start to surface or pieces might start to surface, so as part of the on-going plan and all that is to go over and just pick up any pieces that might be found that would need to be disposed of properly.”
MCK workers specially trained in the safe handling of ACM will perform the inspection work, with all safety guidelines and procedures respected. This inspection is a follow-up to work that has been done regarding ACM in the area.
