Second COVID-19 Case at Kahnawake Survival School

Late Saturday the Kahnawake Education Center (KEC) announced that a student who attends Kahnawake Survival School (KSS) tested positive for COVID-19.  It is the second student at the school to test positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks according to Robin Delaronde the Director of Education at the KEC. “I want to first of all confirm that there is not an outbreak at KSS,” Delaronde said. “Local public health has confirmed with us that these two cases are not associated at this time and therefore, the situation that we’re currently experiencing is not an outbreak.”

In a release, the KEC said immediate measures have been implemented to ensure the KSS student body, staff, and families’ health and safety remain a top priority. “We had to take measures in terms of those who were associated with one class,” Delaronde told K1037 News. “Because we do have small numbers, obviously so we’re fortunate in that way at KSS that students are in smaller classes.”

These are the only two cases at KSS since the beginning of the pandemic. Additional disinfecting measures took place over the weekend on top of the daily cleaning that occurs at the school.
