The vaccination site at the Bingo Hall on the 138 is open for walk-ins today (Thursday) 11 am to 7 pm and Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
Approximately 70% of those 18 and over have now been vaccinated with at least their first dose according to Lisa Westaway, the Executive Director of the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (KMHC). “Anyone from the community can come in. We’ll just play it by ear because we are going to be getting the doses for 16 and 17 year olds,” Westaway said.
A shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine will be arriving in Kahnawake in two weeks time and will be made available for those 16 years of age and over. Most likely the week of April 11th.
Westaway says that some second doses will also begin in the community. “We have confirmation that we will be able to vaccinate our health and social service workers with their second dose because they’re getting towards to their 16 weeks and most of them had Pfizer and we’re going to get extra doses to able to do that,” Westaway said. “It means that we will be open a little bit longer and we will have the ability to vaccinate Kahnawakero’non if they’re interested.”
