Despite one active case of COVID-19 in Kahnawake, the first in nearly a month, there is a loosening of pandemic measures in the community today (Friday).
“We are comfortable in issuing a directive that private home visits will be increased to a maximum of eight (8) people, outdoors only,” said Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips, appearing on Kahnawake 911 on Facebook Thursday afternoon. “At this point in time, indoors is still limited to one other household once per week. This new directive will allow for up to eight individuals to have private home visits and gatherings, maintaining obviously the safe measures that are in place; masks, distance and hygiene.”
Non-contact outdoor organized sports will also be permitted with a maximum of eight people.
The Vaccination Center in Kahnawake at the Mohawk Bingo Hall on Highway 138 is once again open on Friday and Saturday for walk-ins. The hours both days are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. 55% of those 18 years of age and over in the community have received at least one dose of a vaccine. If you have an appointment to get your vaccine, it will be honoured.
