New Mural Honours KMHC Staff

The Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (KMHC) paid tribute to its staff by unveiling a mural directly across from the Hospital. “It’s been months that I’ve been trying to think about what we can do to demonstrate our thanks and respect for all the staff,” said Lisa Westaway, the Executive Director of the KMHC. “I was the kind of inspired by what the Jewish (General Hospital) did this summer with the mural on the side of their building.”
Kahnawake artist Megan Kanerahtenhawi White was commissioned to paint the mural a little less than two months ago. “I think going through this pandemic there are a lot of different experiences that we might have. A lot of changes and transitions that are really hard,” White said. “I think it’s important to highlight the work that we’re doing together as a community to celebrate that, to honour that, to validate that.”
She says she was inspired by the workers at the KMHC.
I think that always, but especially during this pandemic, the way that the Hospital Centre is guiding these guidelines and guiding the work and the safety and the health of the community. How we are working together to ensure that we are all safe and we’re still healthy and that we have ways of connecting that are still safe.”
The billboard stands by the baseball field right across from the KMHC in Kahnawake.
