Free Potatoes for Kahnawakero’non

Written by on 14 August 2020

A large surplus of free potatoes is up for grabs for community members today.

“The emergency food service received a very large and generous donation from a farming company out in New Brunswick,” said Ashlan Phillips, the Emergency Food Coordinator at KSCS. “They delivered over 6000 bags of potatoes. 10 pound bags to the Knights (Of Columbus). We are going to be giving them to our food basket clients but we are also looking to distribute to the community, whoever needs.”

Pick-up will be a drive-thru style in the Knights parking lot between 1 pm and 5 pm this afternoon.

Phillips says it all came together very quickly.

“Chief Gina Deer was contacted by this company letting her know that they were looking to make this donation to Kahnawake to help out with COVID relief. It was a surplus on their end and they were looking around at different places that may need it. They came across Kahnawake and they contacted her.”

The Food Basket is asking community members to remain in their vehicles, as volunteers will place the bags into their vehicles.
