Boil Water Advisory in Effect in Kahnawake Until Further Notice

There is a boil water advisory in effect in Kahnawake until further notice. Homes and businesses in the community experienced water shut offs for a short while due to the water filtration plant cleaning the reservoir earlier this afternoon. The work affected the production at the plant. Mike Goodleaf is the assistant manager of infrastructure and maintenance for the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake and said “The levels had gone below normal and the pumps had a hard time starting. Once the pumps started, we were back to normal.”  The work wrapped up just before 2pm. Goodleaf said the boil water advisory is in place until further notice as the pressure was below normal. He says the water is safe for washing but if people want to consume their water they should boil it for at least 5 minutes.
