The Kahnawake COVID-19 Task Force announced the date for the mandatory wearing of masks in indoor public spaces in the community will be this coming Monday.

Lloyd Phillips is the Commissioner of Public Safety. “If you are going to be entering any type of retail business you are going to be required to wear a mask,” Phillips said. “Any type of service company, for example pharmacies and businesses of that nature as well, you will be required to wear a mask. Any office area where individuals are working directly with the public, that will be further clarified. Places of worship, such as churches, you will be required to wear a mask.”

Masks will also be required at sports and recreation activities as well as in restaurants, except when you are sitting at your table. “Masks are only a part of it,” Phillips said. “There is also the physical distancing and social distancing is still paramount. Proper hand hygiene is still paramount. A mask gives that extra level of security because if you cough or if you sneeze or when you’re speaking you’re not having droplets potentially containing the virus spread to others.”
