Break-In: A Misunderstanding

Written by on 15 June 2020

There was an uninvited guest at Darren Decaire’s house in  Kahnawá:ke overnight. Decaire breaks down the break-in:

“We’re all sleeping and my dog started going crazy, barking, barking, barking, I’m wondering why he wouldn’t stop barking, I was getting kind of mad. So I woke, went into my living room and there was a girl standing in my living room. She looked like she was hammered, s*$t-faced out-of-it, in her pajamas and she’s standing in my living room. It scared the living s*$t out of me I didn’t expect that, to have a girl in my living room. So I started screaming at the girl to get the hell out of my house, you know, get the hell out of my house and she wouldn’t leave, she just kept looking at me and she kept telling me she’s in the wrong house: ‘oh my g-d, I’m in the wrong house.’ I mean, you’re g-d-damn right you’re in the wrong house. As I walked towards her, I started walking towards her to get her out of my house. All my kids are sleeping, by that time they’re both woken up and everybody’s in the living room trying to get this girl out of my house.

DeCaire says that around 5 minutes after the incident began, the Peacekeepers were on scene:

“By the time I started walking towards her to get her out, she just turned around and took off out the door and we called the PK’s and about 5 minutes later the PK’s got there and picked her up down the street from my house.”

Kyle Zachary is the Public Relations officer with the Kahnawá:ke Peacekeepers:

“The officers responded to the residence, they found the person, the suspect, as a local female. She was at the house immediately next door. She was trying to visit a friend and went 1 house too far and ended up in the wrong house. The door was unlocked, that’s how she gained access to the house.”

Zachary says there are no charges pending, it was a misunderstanding and that the individual was given a ride home.
