Amended Kahnawake Schools Graduations Will Proceed Outside: Now on Friday for Kateri
Written by Paul Graif on 10 June 2020
Kateri School in Kahnawake was scheduled to hold its outdoor graduation ceremony on Thursday. However, that has now been pushed to Friday at the same times and location. With 2 grades scheduled at 1 pm, another 2 at 2 pm and the remaining 2 at 3 pm, the ceremonies will remain in a drive by style at the Kateri School Yard, only 1 day later.
Robin Delaronde, the Director of Education at the Kahnawake Education Center, appearing on Kahnawake 911 on Facebook Tuesday afternoon, said that alternate plans were put in place. “So, for parents and families having children attending graduation at Kateri School, the plan is to have it outdoors on school grounds with strict measures in place. They will be making sure that they separate the groupings in terms of classes. So, they will be asking that certain classes come at certain times. For example: at 1, 2 and 3. Parents have the information on what times that can come to the school grounds and some of the guidelines to ensure safe distancing.”
Indian Way and Karihwanoron Mohawk Immersion will hold their graduations on Friday.
For Karonhianonhnha School, the ceremony is scheduled for Monday June 15th.
Kahnawake Survival School (KSS) is set for Wednesday June 17th, the same day as Step by Step Child and Family Center
The Ratiwennahnirats immersion program has pushed their graduation back to the fall.
