Water Sampling Underway

Written by on 15 May 2020

Kahnawà:ke’s Environmental Health Services inspectors are once again performing their residential bacteriological water sampling on homes in the community. The sampling applies to the 350 or so homes that are not hooked up to the Town’s Water system. Donald Gilbert is the Team leader of the Environmental Health Service Program at KSCS and he says:

“…we’ve been trying to get 2 bacteriological samples per year and we’ve been successful, but due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we’ve been trying not to do a lot of going around knocking on doors, going inside to collect the water samples. So what we’re asking the community to do is, make sure your outside tap is on, we’ll collect the water samples from there.”

Gilbert says that last year they discovered 17 wells that were contaminated with e-coli bacteria. Gilbert further stating that he along with 3 other technicians will be gathering the samples:

“…don’t be surprised if you see myself, Donald Gilbert, Larry Jacobs, Mark Horn or Bryan Ip, walking through your backyard looking for your outside tap. We’ll be wearing blue shirts to identify us, it’s got our logo on it, the Environmental Health Services, KSCS, because last year, I did have the police come after me.”
