No Injuries in Local House Fire

There was a small fire at a residence in the Clay Mountains area of Kahnawake overnight. The Kahnawake Peacekeepers and Fire Brigade received a call after 3:30 this morning. By the time they arrived, they say the homeowner was able to extinguish the flames.
“There were confirmed flames inside a residence at the bottom of Clay Mountains,” said KFB Captain Wishe Stacey. “Upon arrival the flames had been extinguished by both the Peacekeepers and the residents of the house.”
Stacey says the fire was accidental. He says the homeowners were prepared and all four members of the house were able to react, extinguish the flames and get out safely.
“The actual cause of the fire was narrowed down to electrical. This was accidental in nature. An individual in the bedroom at the time was awoken by both the flames and the smoke alarms in the house. So this is a true testament to the fact that smoke alarms do save lives,” Stacey said.
Damage to the home was minimal.
