Wilderness Training: This is Only a Test

Written by on January 9, 2020

Wilderness First Aid Training will be taking place at the Kahnawake Youth Center this weekend for Scouts. Scouts Canada changed its regulation and at least one leader is required to take the training and be certified. Kyle Zacharie is the Director of Operations at the KYC. “We will be hosting a first aid training for our scouters along with scouters from other groups within Quebec. We have 14 participating in the training,” Zacharie said.  A portion of the training will take place outdoors (either next to the KYC, on the bike path behind KYC, or Tekakwitha Island) and involves realistic situations with role-playing and the usage of fake blood. Zacharie says that the community should be aware that this is simply a training. “We were informed by the instructor, who has done this training several times, that in the past he has had police and ambulance called because people passing by who were unaware of the training thought it looked like a real scene and called in emergency services. So we are making everybody aware of what will be going on just to avoid any undo phones calls,” Zacharie said.
