Vaccinations to Begin Exactly One Year After Start of Pandemic

Written by on 25 February 2021

“We are very very thrilled to announce to the community that the vaccination campaign for mass vaccinations for the community as a whole will start the week of March 8th,” Lisa Westaway, the Executive Director of the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center (KMHC), announced Wednesday afternoon on Kahnawake 911 on Facebook. “There are many logistics that still have to be worked out. They will be communicated to you in the coming week.”

However, there is a confirmed date for the first shots to be protected against COVID-19. They will be administered, exactly one year after the pandemic arrived in this region. “Vaccinations will take place starting March 11th,” Westaway said. “On the 11th, 12th and 13th, vaccinations will only be for people who ae 85 years and older. This is exactly as the vaccination campaign is starting in the Monteregie area. We will be providing you information on how to book an appointment next week. Appointments will mostly be booked online or by calling KMHC.”

The news has Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips feeling optimistic. “Very positive news,” Phillips said. “We are in the process of turning a very major corner in the pandemic response in our community. We ought to hang in there just a little bit longer.”
