Two Week Delay for Back To School

Written by on 7 August 2020

The Kahnawake Education Center has delayed the reopening of schools in the community for two weeks. Orientation for all grade levels will begin September 14, with students back full time September 28th.

According to COVID 19 Task Force member Robin Delaronde,

“This two week extension is going to allow the K.E.C. along with health services and the Kateri Memorial Hospital as well as school bus transportation reps to really look at some elementary health and safety guidelines to follow.”

In additon she says the two week extension will allow time to educate teachers and other school workers in how to implement those guidelines.

The task force is also wary of the increase in cases that is being seen elsewhere in the province and they want to see how openings proceed in other school systems.

As well, KEC says the delay will experience and monitor the Covid-19 transmission rates in surrounding communities.
