Tewatohnhi’saktha Grabs MCK’s Communications Boss to Head Up Economic Development

Written by on 23 September 2020

Tewatohnhi’saktha is hiring Neil McComber as the newly created position of Executive Director. The job title has changed from Chief Executive, a job occupied by Barbara McComber on an interim basis until this Friday when she retires. Neil McComber will remain in his job as Director of Communications at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake for the next two months before making the switch. He doesn’t expect to make big changes when he comes aboard.

“Tewa has a strategic plan. They have a vision for the community to be self-sustaining. But they also want that to keep in mind the cultural values of the community,” Neil said. “That’s the part that excites me the most. I guess often when you consider business and economic development sometimes it doesn’t always mesh with cultural values. It is something that spoke to me. If you look at the direction they have been taking, you look at the wind energy project. That’s environmentally friendly energy so that’s kind of where their steps are going anyway. I’m just excited for the challenge in front of me.”

Greg Horn is the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Tewatohnhi’saktha. He says they had many applications for the job.

“He brings a lot to the table, you know the hiring committee after going through all of the application packages and the interviews felt strongly that Neil was the right person for the job and recommended him to the rest of the board of directors, who agreed.”
