Some Daycare Children Told to Isolate With Their Families

Written by on 5 February 2021

Two days after announcing that an educator at the Step By Step Child and Family Center tested positive for COVID-19,  public health is keeping the children from her classroom bubbles home for a period of at least 48 hours. The educator was last in contact with anyone at the daycare on Thursday January 28. Dawn Montour Lazare is the Manager of Outpatient care at the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center (KMHC), appearing on Kahnawake 911 yesterday. “The local public health team has made a recommendation while waiting for further details,” Montour-Lazare said. “As a precautionary measure we will be closing rooms 1.2 and 9 as of today to ensure that there is no further spread or transmission of the virus. Until we receive more information and directives we ask parents for children in rooms 1,2, ad 9 as well as members of their households to remain in isolation until further notice and monitor their health for any symptoms. Once we receive information in the next 48 to 72 hours we will advise the families what they need to do in regards to continued isolation if needed.”

There are now four active cases of COVID-19 in Kahnawake.

Meanwhile the Quebec curfew for non essential travel in the surrounding regions remains in place from 8 PM until 5 AM each night.

In Chateauguay, the police set up a curfew check roadblock Thursday night and plan to do so again Friday and Saturday. Since the start of the curfew on January 8th, Chateauguay police have stopped nearly 1500 vehicles. They have handed out 50 fines to violators.
