Mercier Blitz To Finish Blitz a Week Early

Written by on 5 August 2020

The work blitz on the Mercier Bridge may wrap up a week ahead of schedule if all goes according to plan says Sterling Deer, a spokesperson and co-owner of the Mohawk Bridge Consortium (MBC). “We are scheduled to finish all the work preferably by this coming Monday (August 10) weather permitting. All in all it was a success. The guys worked hard up there and everything came together as planned,” Deer said.

The workers toiled through several days of humidex readings of 40-plus, and with a great deal of rain in recent days as they repaired the deck on the Montreal bound span and performed work underneath the roadway as well. “It’s always a relief when you can make a schedule and can get ahead of your schedule finishing up. You got to understand with a bridge and stuff like that, especially the age of that bridge, you don’t know what you’re going to encounter when you open things up. So, you always have to budget a little bit more time and have a little contingency in the event that you run into something, that nobody such as engineers and inspectors knew of, that you can take care of.”

However several weekend closures are still scheduled through the fall when the bridge is expected to be down to one lane in each direction.
