MCK Appoints Karlie Onerahtoktha Marquis Executive Director

Written by on 9 February 2021

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke finally has their new Executive Director locating their new hire ‘in-house’ after an extensive search. Karlie Onerahtoktha Marquis was offered and accepted the job on Friday:

“It’s a privilege, I guess I’m still speechless, but obviously very grateful and excited to take on this new role and lead our community in a positive direction and create a better future for the collective.”

The MCK has been without an Executive Director since April 29, 2020 after the departure of Allana Goodleaf-Rice who was in the job for more than 2 decades. Marquis has been working as the Business Development Manager at the MCK since August, 2019.

She knows that she will have to call on all of her experience to lead the MCK into the future:

“It is an an unprecedent year and so much has happened in this year, just with the vacancy of the Executive Director and the sudden death of the Grand Chief and then this pandemic. There’s so much that needs to be addressed and we need to navigate it in a very smart way but I believe that with the support of the Council of Chiefs and the Executive team and the entire MCK staff that if we work together and come to that one mind there’s nothing that we can’t accomplish.”

The 32-year-old was a financial Manager at the MCK, is a former Governor General’s Award winner for having the highest-grade point average in high school at Centennial and back in 2016, Marquis graduated in Finance from The John Molson School of Business at Concordia.
