KSCS Hot Meals Coming To An End

Written by on 8 July 2020

Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services will be ending the delivery of Emergency Hot Meals on July 31st, 2020. The KSCS Meals on Wheels service will not be affected, and clients will continue to receive their daily meals. Derek Montour is the Executive Director of the KSCS:

“Kahnawà:ke took the initiative very early to launch 3 different types of services: an emergency hot meals service for elders and those with limited mobility; a food basket service for those who had more capabilities in their homes; and finally a meals for essential service workers. So, on July 31st, we are looking at downsizing some of these services, the 1st that has already let go is the essential services meal, those are no longer running as of July 5th. Now as everybody is aware, restaurants are open as well as groceries, so there’s more opportunity for essential service workers to run in and grab a bite somewhere or prepare their own food.”

Community members who were receiving the Emergency Hot Meals and are still in need of food security after July 31, 2020 can register to receive the Emergency Food Baskets by calling KSCS at 450-632-6880 and ask to speak with an emergency food facilitator.
