Howard S. Billings High School: 1st Covid-19 Case

Written by on 7 October 2020

In a letter dated today, October 7th, Howard S. Billings Principal Lynn L’Esperance-Claude confirmed the presence of a positive Covid-19 case in the school. The letter addressed to parents declares that the school will remain open and will continue to take all measures necessary to prevent further spread.

Rob Butters is the Director General of the New Frontiers School Board:

“Part of the protocol, when a student tests or a staff member tests positive, it’s reported and then following the Sante Publique/(the) Public Health guidelines, we have to identify the student, the student’s group, contact them individually and then send a general communication to the community to clarify in transparency what’s happened.”

What is the next step for the kids in this particular class bubble following this 1st case at the school? Director Butters:

“If the child was in that particular group, they would have been contacted by now. The good thing is the student’s in this particular bubble, or in this particular group, have experience with online learning, so the group that has to stay home until any further testing or symptoms will be able to pick up with online learning tomorrow morning with their regular teachers.”

HSB, part of the New Frontiers School Board, was established in 1967 servicing students in the Chateauguay area as well as students from Kahnawà:ke.
