First Community “Meeting” Since Before the Pandemic

Written by on 15 October 2021

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Ratitsénhaienhs are meeting with community members in a kiosk-style format today from 9am to 1pm at the green space next to the Golden Age Club. It is the first official meeting since the recent MCK election in July, as well as the first since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic in more than a year and a half.

“We’re just looking to give the community an opportunity to come and have some engagement with us,” Grand Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer said as she joined the Morning D on K1037. “There’s been a lot going on in the community since the election obviously. If people have concerns, want information, they want to vent. We’re going to put ourselves out there. It’s not a community meeting, obviously. We did a survey recently too try to garner some feedback about what people’s thoughts were on the way we used to run community meetings. We’re definitely going to be looking to do some modifications when we reinstitute them.”

There are five tents set up today with two Ratitsénhaienhs per tent. A second session is scheduled for Wednesday October, 27 from 2-6 pm.
