Essential Snow Removal Applications Being Accepted in Kahnawake

Written by on 7 October 2021

Applications are now available for the Essential Snow Removal Program in Kahnawake. According to the Client Based Services (CBS) Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK), the program will operate from December 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The program can only accept a limited number of clients each year, and requires previous clientele to re-apply yearly. Caroline McComber is the office manager and project coordinator at CBS.

According to Caroline McComber of The Client Based Services Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, the program will operate from December 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.

“It’s an essential program for the elderly and disabled,” she said. “I think people misinterpret it for free snow removal services. But it’s actually for emergency medical.”

The Essential Snow Removal Program provides access for emergency service personnel by clearing entryways, such as ramps, stairs, and driveways. The program can only accept a limited number of clients, and previous clientele must re-apply each year.

“We only accept about 70 clients per year,” McComber said. “So it’s supposed to go by priority: lowest income, health condition or any health issues. You have to be 65 years old.  You have to live alone, limited income, medical issues either short or long term. And no family to look out for your wellbeing.”

McComber can be reached at CBS at: 450 638-0500 for a telephone application no later than Friday, November 12th at 4pm.
