Aquaponics Supported

Written by on 24 September 2020

The results of the survey on the Aquaponics project that was conducted from late August to early September are out. Approximately 80% of those surveyed supported the project. Chief Cody Diabo was on the Partyline talk-show today on K1037 with the plan:

“People were concerned about using common land for a project like this given that Kahnawà:ke is only so big and we only have so much common land left. The goal of something like this because it’s indoors and it doesn’t need a lot of space and it doesn’t need good land, because all land is valuable and you know we can’t say put a price on land, but some areas that I’m particularly looking at and that was being evaluated is right across from Clay Mountains so all that area along the Seaway.”

Chief Diabo saying what will need to go on the land:

“In terms of what’s going to eventually have to go there, it’s not essentially say that we’re going to be putting houses there. To turn land that’s not pristine or good farming land or good residential land, this building can fit right there because again it’s all indoors.”

The Aquaponics project is an ambitious environmentally-friendly sustainable foods initiative that was announced earlier this year.
