Animal Control Survey Underway

Kahnawake’s Animal protection unit launched a survey yesterday asking for consultation on a new animal control law in the community. Assistant animal control officer Deidra Whyte says there are 10 questions on the survey. They are multiple choice and take just a minute or 2 to complete. The survey can be picked up at the animal control office, or filled out on-line on the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake’s Facebook page. Whyte says more than 40 people showed up on the first day yesterday at a kiosk held at the services complex. And had suggestions.
“It’s a combination of things, either there’s a lot of cats, wildlife. The loose dog issue is still apparent and irresponsible pet ownership and neglected animals,” Whyte said.
The kiosk will also be open on Tuesday, December 4th at the services complex. The survey will be conducted over the next 2 weeks. They will also hold 2 community consultation meetings on each of the next 2 Thursday nights at the Golden Age Club from 6-8 pm.
