Today is the 40th anniversary of the Howard S Billings walkout in Chateauguay by 300 Kahnawake students – over the creation of Bill 101 and the charter of the French language a year earlier. It required students to apply for a special eligibility certificate go to school in English. It led to the creation of the Kahnawake Survival School. A walk to KSS is taking place this morning, beginning at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
